Executive Director Job Description

Children's Garden of Learning (CGL), a Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool in Vail, Colorado, is seeking an Executive Director to build on the school’s success while partnering with parents and the community to fulfill its mission to guide and nurture children’s learning.  With 25 years of rich history in educating young children, ranging in age from 20 months to five years old, CGL enrolls 100 students every year. The school’s approach to curriculum planning is based on play, the environment, and children’s unique interests. CGL embraces a philosophy that fosters independence, self-help skills, and creativity within each child.
 
The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of school operations meet CGL standards of excellence, safety, and quality. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, developing a Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum; hiring, supervising, and developing a team of 20 staff members; occasional substituting in the classroom; ensuring compliance with CGL’s policies and procedures; ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations; securing proper maintenance of the school’s facilities; representing CGL in the community; and contributing to the development and management of the annual budget. This position reports directly to CGL’s Board of Directors.

The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field and must be Director qualified by the State of Colorado. A Master’s degree in early childhood education or a related field is preferred. The candidate must possess demonstrated teaching experience with preschool-age children and leadership skills, including experience managing, coaching, and developing teams; developing and managing budgets; organizing and prioritizing complex tasks; and communicating with exceptional speaking and writing skills. Training and experience in the Reggio Emilia philosophy is strongly preferred. Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required. This is a full-time, year-round, salaried exempt position with a competitive salary, based out of Vail, Colorado.
